Well Water Testing & Analysis

Know what's in your water. Professional testing for bacteria, minerals, nitrates, and more. Protect your family's health with regular water quality testing.

Is Your Well Water Safe?

Unlike municipal water, private well water isn't monitored by any government agency. You're responsible for making sure your water is safe to drink. Regular testing is the only way to know what's in your water and whether it meets safety standards.

We work with certified laboratories to provide accurate, reliable water quality testing. We collect samples properly, ensure they reach the lab on time, and help you understand the results.

What We Test For

Bacteria

Total coliform, E. coli, and other bacteria that indicate contamination from sewage, animals, or surface water.

Nitrates

From fertilizers, septic systems, or animal waste. Dangerous for infants and pregnant women.

Arsenic

Naturally occurring in some areas of Southern California. Long-term exposure linked to cancer.

Lead

Can come from old pipes or well components. No safe level for children.

Minerals & Hardness

Iron, manganese, calcium, and magnesium affect taste, staining, and appliance life.

pH Level

Acidic water can corrode pipes and fixtures. Affects treatment system effectiveness.

When to Test Your Water

  • Annually — Bacteria test at minimum, more comprehensive testing every 3-5 years
  • When buying property — Full panel testing before closing
  • New baby or pregnancy — Test for nitrates and bacteria
  • Change in taste, odor, or color — Something may have changed
  • After well work — Any time the well is opened or repaired
  • After flooding — Surface water may have entered the well
  • Nearby land use changes — New agriculture, septic, or development

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does well water testing cost?

Basic bacteria testing starts around $75-100. Standard panel testing (bacteria, nitrates, minerals, pH) runs $150-250. Comprehensive full panels including arsenic, lead, and other contaminants range from $300-500 depending on parameters tested. We provide exact quotes upfront before collecting samples.

How long do water test results take?

Bacteria results typically come back in 24-48 hours since coliform tests require incubation time. Standard and full panel testing takes 5-10 business days depending on the lab workload and number of parameters being tested.

What if my well water fails a test?

Don't panic — we'll explain exactly what the results mean and your options. For bacteria contamination, we typically recommend well disinfection (shock chlorination). For mineral or chemical issues, we can discuss treatment systems like filtration, softeners, or reverse osmosis. Many water quality issues are easily solved.

How often should I test my well water?

At minimum, test for bacteria annually. More comprehensive testing every 3-5 years is recommended. You should also test after any well work, flooding, changes in taste/odor/color, if someone in the household becomes pregnant, or if there are land use changes nearby (new septic, agriculture, or construction).

Can I collect my own water sample?

Some tests require specific collection procedures and sterile containers from the lab. Improper sampling is a common cause of false positives, especially for bacteria tests. We handle sample collection properly to ensure accurate, reliable results that you can trust.

Is well water testing required when selling a home in California?

While not always legally required, most lenders and buyers expect water testing for properties with private wells. Title 22 testing may be required for some transactions. We provide certified lab results and proper documentation for real estate transactions and escrow.
