Borrego Springs is entirely dependent on groundwater — there's no municipal water system here. Every home, business, and golf course draws from the Borrego Valley aquifer. This makes well maintenance not just important, but essential for life in the desert.
The Borrego Valley sits in a geologic basin filled with alluvial sediments — sand, gravel, and clay deposited over millions of years. Wells here typically range from 200-400 feet, with most hitting good water at 250-350 feet. The aquifer is productive, but the desert environment is hard on equipment — extreme heat, mineral-rich water, and heavy demands during summer months all take their toll.
Most Borrego Springs wells are 200-400 feet deep, with the sweet spot around 250-350 feet. The Borrego Valley aquifer is fairly consistent, so deeper isn't always better here — we drill to the most productive zone based on geological surveys and neighboring wells.
The aquifer is under stress from heavy agricultural and golf course irrigation, causing water levels to drop over time. However, residential wells are still viable. We monitor depth-to-water and may recommend pump lowering if your water level has declined significantly. Conservation is important for the valley's future.
Generally good for desert water! Most wells produce potable water, though mineral content (calcium, magnesium) is higher than coastal areas. We recommend water softeners for residential use and filtration for drinking water. Agricultural wells work fine for irrigation.
Absolutely. We service wells throughout Borrego Springs — from Rams Hill and De Anza Country Club to Palm Canyon and the outlying areas. We know the valley well and can respond to emergencies anywhere in the Borrego area.
Annual inspections minimum. Borrego's extreme conditions — heat, minerals, dust — are harder on equipment than coastal areas. If you use your well heavily for landscaping or a pool, twice-yearly service is smart. Catching problems early saves thousands in emergency repairs.
