Hydrofracturing for hard-rock wells

Most addresses inside the City of San Diego sit on imported municipal water. If that is you, stop here — there is nothing to hydrofracture. This page is for the rural and semi-rural wells on the county edge: Ramona, Lakeside back-canyons, Poway / San Pasqual pockets, Jamul, Pine Valley, Aguanga, and similar hard-rock ground.

What it is

A bedrock well makes water through thin fractures in granite. Those fractures silt up and scale. We isolate a zone with packers and inject clean water only at high pressure to flush debris and connect more of the existing fracture network to the borehole. It is a rehabilitation method, not a new well.

When to call — and when not to

• Call if yield has fallen, recovery is slow, or someone already told you to drill new without measuring the hole you have.
• Do not buy this job on a sand or river-valley well. High pressure in alluvium does not “open rock.” Those wells need screen work, a deeper setting, treatment, or a different hole.
• A well that simply missed water-bearing fractures may only improve a little. We will say that after the test.

What we do

1. Production test and well-log review. Measure first.
2. Downhole video when we need to see casing, water level, and open zones.
3. Packer isolation and clean-water injection on a confirmed bedrock candidate.
4. Develop the well and re-test. You get before/after numbers, not a promise we invented on the phone.

If fracturing is the wrong tool we point you to rehab, deepening vs. a new well, or new drilling.

Questions we hear before this job

I have a San Diego city water bill. Do I need this?

No. Hydrofracturing is only for a private well in rock. If the City of San Diego (or another utility) bills you monthly, there is no well to stimulate.

Is this the same as oil-and-gas fracking?

No. We inject clean water to flush and open existing fractures in a water well. No chemical slickwater, no new oil boring.

How do you know if my well is in bedrock?

The well completion log usually says granite, granodiorite, or hard rock — or sand, gravel, and alluvium. We confirm on the diagnostic before anyone quotes stimulation.
